Yngsjö - the best beach in Sweden
From the white sandy beaches of Yngsjö you get a beautiful view over the Hanö bay, inviting you to one of southern Sweden's most well protected holiday pearls.
Yngsjö is famous for its beaches and every year the picturesque holiday cottages are filled with people hungry for sun, beach and unspoilt Swedish nature. Enjoy a stroll along miles of clean white beaches where local fishermen bring in herring, eel and cod from the Baltic sea.
Yngsjö also offers other holiday activities such as horse riding, tennis and minigolf, you can go pike fishing or visit Pulken in Kristianstads Vattenrike, Sweden’s first biosphere area, which is protected by UNESCO.
The eel coast
Yngsjö is at the heart of the eel coast in Sweden. During the autumn many of the local fishing communities organise special Eel Feasts – a unique gastronomic experience that you can enjoy in a simple eel-hut on the beach or in one of the restaurants.
The menu at this veritable celebration of the eel may well include eel soup, boiled eel, fried eel, smoked eel, grilled eel and eel prepared in the time-honoured local way on a bed of straw. What’s more, every eel-fishing family and restaurant have their own specialities handed-down through generations.
Yngsjö is also known for...
The pittoresque Yngsjö is also known for the "Yngsjö murder", one of Sweden's most famous murder cases where a mother and son murdered the son's wife to cover up an incestuous relationship. They were both sentenced to death and Anna Månsdotter was the last woman to be executed in Sweden in 1890. Her son was pardoned and sentenced to life.
